I --. [ Bucky pauses, let's that settle in for a moment, feels something go tight and warm in his chest. ] Yeah?

[He just holds onto him]

I remember thinking when we were eleven that it would be terrible to try and do anything without you. I would have done anything for you. I would have given up everything.

Just to be around you.

[A pause]

[ He's silent for a moment, trying to process it, because they have been each other's whole lives for as long as he remembers. Steve is the only real thing Bucky has for a family, and that they're this now makes it so much better. ]

No. [ Pressing into him. ] It's not too much. I love you just as much, so it's a good thing.

[punchedhitler]

[Steve is still resting his head there, on Bucky's shoulder. He's pleased, in a deep way that makes him feel down to the pit of his stomach, warm and quiet.]

[They can't talk like this all the time - it would make Bucky squirm, for one - but right now it's all right.]

[ He's not used to the flush of happy warmth sitting inside him, but instead of trying to chase it away, he just lets them have this. ]

So why were y'thinkin' about it?

Because I knew when I fell in love with Peggy. I can figure out the exact minute it happened. But I don't know when it happened with you. When I kissed you back in December I realized I was in love with you.

But I didn't know when that happened.

[ A hum. ]

Maybe we don't have to have a moment, it just happened. I'm happy with that.

[Steve doesn't ever have to ask Bucky to repeat things like that. Instead he leans back a little to move his mouth to Bucky's, because, damn it Barnes, words]

[ Fingers coming up to brush Steve's cheek, a smile on his face when they pull back. ]

We're both gettin' too soft, y'know that, right?

[He's joking. He just presses his mouth to Bucky's temple, affectionate]

[ Laughing, he shifts, presses up to kiss him again. ]

[He kisses him back, slightly enthusiastic]

[ Mouth twitching. ]

[Oh.

Oh, Bucky. Steve's turning now so Bucky is on the table, sitting on it, and he's between Bucky's legs, his mouth against the other man's like he's drowning and Bucky is air.]

[ Beaming as he hooks his foot around the back of his knee. ] You like hearin' that?

[ Shrugging. ]
