[Steve nods after a second, looking down at his best friend and reaching for his extra coat and a couple of sketchbooks.]

[His hypervigilance, though, suggests otherwise.]

[ Bucky doesn't have anything he feels is particularly of worth, so he just hovers. ]

[He hands a sketchbook to Bucky and his back foot taps the door closed, holds it there to press a kiss to Bucky's forehead.]

[He takes a breath and nods]

[There is madness on the decks, as people are trying to figure out what's going on. Steve leads them through to where people are congregating around the lifeboats]

[Steve gets jostled away from Bucky and he yelps and reaches for him]

[ Bucky pushes past whoever it was trying to get through to the lifeboats, ducks in under someone to reach for Steve. ] The fuck is going on?

Bucky there are little kids here-

I think we're evacuating?

[But clearly it's first class women and children first.]

It's probably just a precaution.

[ But there's that creaking sound coming from somewhere and he doesn't look so sure. ]

We should help.

[He looks around]

You should go start to get people and help them here, I'll help people on the lifeboats.

[ Hesitating for a second before he nods. ]

Okay, but be careful.

[He wants to press a kiss to Bucky's lips but he reaches and squeezes his hand, a tiny gesture that goes unseen in the throngs of people]

[ The corner of his mouth lifts in a slow smile, before he's moving away, pushing through the throng of people to help find those who need his help. ]

[It becomes clear soon that the ship is sinking, and Steve can't stop loading children and women and first class passengers onto the lifeboats. There was some mess at first, as people fought for a place, but now things are getting critical. This is the last lifeboat, Steve wants to leave and find Bucky now, but he can't stop, not now. He just hopes Bucky comes back before the ship goes under.]

[ He's carrying a crying child by the time he comes back, tries to shush her as he walks, but it's no good. She can't find her mother and Bucky doesn't even know where to start only that he needs to get her off.

Catching sight of Steve brings relief though, sharp in his stomach. ] Hey.

[He takes a huff of a breath in when he sees Bucky and reaches out for the little girl.]

Hey, sweetheart, hush, come on.

[He holds her close]
